A Memory Worth Remembering

Facebook used to allow notes. Notes were like little nuggets of writing, the way people write here and on substack now, I guess. I used to write a lot of notes. I wrote them to remind myself of how things were once and how they are now and to remember the active practice of gratitude and observation.

One came up today. I want to keep it. I think it’s something most people already know in this space but it’s worth repeating, so here it is.

So yeah, life.

Feel as though I need to leave a bookmark here. A way to remember the place and time and lifetime page number when happy was the norm and every day a good one.

Lord, didn’t I spend an awful long time just enduring and existing?

But it does seem to me that we’re taught that if we want to be really serious people, fully adult and “real” we have to accept that life is going to be a struggle and we have to dislike it.

Who installed that software? Who decided that?

It’s written into Catholicism and other big R religions, I know that much but who was the original assbag who woke up one day and said; “Marge, the world needs more suffering. I am going to sit down and write me a few religious tracts and get that idea rolling.”
