Election Diary: 128 Days to go
It’s been 139 days since the Supreme Court took the Presidential Immunity case and stalled out The People vs Donald Trump under Judge Tanya Chutkan. Thinking about that makes me queasy.
It’s a grey day in my corner of New England. The light is soft and watery, the air cool and fresh. We’ve slipped out from under the heat dome, at least for now.
It’s an odd feeling to be removed from the drama of the city. Instead of 20 different public issues going on at any given time, there are one or two. In the city, you might have a broken water main in one neighborhood, road work in another, a corrupt city counselor might be under scrutiny, the local sports stadium needs repairs, or is getting renamed, there’s controversy over a new development. None of that happens here. Here, there is the weather. The turn of the seasons provides the most drama. The rest is waiting.
I love our home, of course, and I say that because temperamentally, I often wonder how long we will be able to stay here. Of course I also say it to make sure it’s said and known, because I also know I am well not suited to rural life, even though sometimes I wish I were. And if he’s honest, neither is my husband. (but that’s a story for another day)
Today, one of the tenants staying at our rental will return to Atlanta where he will begin his first job as a doctor. His life is about to begin. I wish him every adventure, every joy he can experience. I’m so glad for him.
