Election Diary: Five More Days.

It’s Friday. We went to a local orchard and bought some apples, a turnip and a bag of carrots. The apples are excellent. I’m glad to have the rest. I’ll use them in stews and other dinners if Autumnal weather ever arrives. From my desk, I watched crows winging their way home to their roost. At this time of year, there are thousands of them. They looked as though they had been flung into a high wind against the deepening blue of the sky, like ash, or black scraps of paper scattered everywhere.

I realize it’s important to love every minute of life. I know what hangs in the balance. I pray this is not our last weekend free of the burden of Trump in office but no one really knows what will happen next.

Tomorrow we will go to Albany to attend a couple of events and visit the Asian grocery store. We’re almost out of dashi and making an order for delivery from HMart seems extravagant.

Nicole Wallace is on TV imploring her former boss, George Bush, to endorse Kamala Harris. I wish her success. I’m thinking of three of my friends who died this year. I know they would want to be here to see how this election plays out. I’m sorry they’re not. Some days I feel like it’s my job to be here for them.

Made an eggplant dish with some venison for dinner. It smells pretty good. We had eggs florentine for breakfast. I thought that might be enough for the day thinking we’d just snack through the evening. But we’re both hungry, so okay, dinner it is. Every day should be enjoyed, every moment of life…
